Melbourne and surrounds:

Melbourne Animal Rescue (MAR)

A network of volunteer foster homes for pets that have been surrendered or are on death row in Victorian pounds. They are a charity that operates solely on donations, adoption fees and fundraising.

The Lost Dogs Home

Based in North Melbourne, this organisation aims to re-home unwanted dogs and cats and enhance the responsible ownership of animals in the community. They include a Vet clinic, adoption service and pet shelter in their repertoire!

Geelong and Western Victoria:

Geelong Animal Rescue (GARS)

Geelong animal rescue is a non-profit organisation. Run by volunteers, their mission is to provide a voice for unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats.

They have no shelter, paid staff, onsite vet or government funding and run their service out of their volunteers homes. In particular, they try to save animals from overcrowded pounds that would otherwise end up being put down :(

Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS)

A service aimed at rehoming lost and relinquished animals across the Geelong region. They also conduct research and advocacy to improve the outcomes for these animals.

Eastern Victoria:

Victorian Dog Rescue & Resource Group (VicDRG)

A dog rescue network based in Eastern Victoria. A not-for-profit charity, funded only by adoption fees, donations and fundraising. They state "if someone else has abandoned them, we shall not."

New South Wales (NSW)

Central NSW


The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is a well known not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of programs for the betterment of animal welfare. Their NSW arm offers adoption programs, but also Vet programs, animal hospitals, owner education and lots more. They are a great option for all round animal information

Northern NSW

Northern Rivers Animal Services (NRAS)

These guys work with surrounding region animal services to help re-home animals. Located in the beautiful Northern NSW region of Ballina, it's the perfect spot to find your new forever friend!

Queensland (QLD)

Animal Rescue Queensland

This foster network serves South-Eastern Queensland. They run a desexing program and can help find your new fur-friend!

Northern Territory

Top End Rehoming Group

These guys serve the Northern Territory and include the Katherine region. They are a registered charity and aim to improve the lives of abandoned animals and save animals facing euthanasia :(

RSPCA Darwin

The Northern arm of the animal charity we all know! Check them out if you live in the top end!

Western Australia (WA)


These guys continue the good work of the RSPCA over in the west and run a number of initiatives that include adoption programs!
